Well, I did it.
I joined the Dark Side — I produced/directed a thing via Open Broadcaster Software and distributed via YouTube Live!
The presenter and my OBS box were connected via Zoom, from which we displayed a Google Slides presentation and she spoke over the top. [It was a ‘virtual’ awards ceremony.] We also cut in a recorded video file played in VLC a few times to demonstrate student work
It was a little stressful, but ended up going pretty smoothly. The key to that was that we all practiced a bit with the tools a few times and did some dry runs. No matter how often in my day job I tell folks “it would be a good idea to practice with those tools before you “go live,”” few do it (and then many get frustrated when their things don’t go as they had envisioned). <shrug>
I foresee more OBS / Youtube Live stuff in the future for that project, since it’s a great way to record stuff in a way that makes it accessible in the future, even if you’re not intending to broadcast it initially.
If that’s the case, I really should find some tutorials to show me how to make transitions and ‘fancy stuff’ happen in OBS.
